Project Dark One

This is the rig im probably best known for on BYT. I started out with a stock Axial AX10 Scorpion RTR.

Here are a couple initial pics of it when i first got it out of the box...

A bit of a change in the form of some BYT decals...along with the new motor and transmission flip.




Now Within the next week or so i will be leaving the stock TVPs and the Helios behind for this...

The Tube Chassis arrived two weeks ago now and lets just say i was NOT impressed with it once i started to assemble the rig on it. When assembled as shown in the promo pics of it the rear shaft is fully coolapsed and set at a near vertical angle and the front shaft is over extended and actually drops out. I have some solutions to the rear shaft at least but the front im still mulling over. Basically i will need to run a shaft intended for a DIG applucation on the rear end to shorten it up a bit more and eliminate the chance of it locking solid again. Also will need to look into some 80 or 70 mm shocks to bring it way down in height which more then likely will help shaft angle a lot. Right now i currently have the front and rear lower links bolted on the chassis where there are currently screws for the body panels. not a big problem really. Fronts look crude since i had to use longer screws to achieve this but thats nothing a dremel tool with a cut off blade cant fix. Mounted the rear lowers on the oudside since i didnt have enough of the long screws to mount them like the fronts on the inside of the chassis nor did i have nuts that fit the screws..however this is not an issue that a trip to the LHS wont fix. Other thing im going to need to consider is making some spacers for the upper links on the rear since they are binding from being pushed to an angle they were not designed to handle. Other then these lil problems all i need now is a lead extention, servo tape and the Tamiya plug swapped for a Deans...basically in the home stretch with it now. Just had to walk away from it for a week or so to clear my head...to say i was a lil pissed at the rig was an understatement. The builder of the chassis argued with me that he had 14 of the same chassis out around his area and they worked...Truthfully i couldnt see how till i took a second look at it and came up with solutions...

Hey that thing is cool looking, hows it crawl with the new chassis?

Looks like you need to make some new links to get axle angles rite.

Get a pack of stampede axle shafts and make you're shafts from them, they are way stronger, fit rite on you're axial yolks, and pretty cheap.

Havent crawled with it just yet since i need a couple small things to get it operational again. Thanks for the tip on the Stampede shafts.
